Physical fitness and healthy living are important to all Western students. Our open courses are offered to both male and female students in grades nine and ten and aim to show students that fitness can be fun and exciting. We offer a variety of senior level courses that focus on individual fitness, large group activities and courses that offer students the opportunity to pursue physical education studies at the university or college level.
Healthy Active Living courses provide students the opportunity to explore a variety of games, sports and activities on a daily basis. Western has some of the most complete athletic facilities in the TDSB including: basketball courts, a swimming pool, a soccer pitch and tennis courts. As part of the course requirement your child will have a weekly swimming class. In the junior grades, courses will include nutrition and diet, CPR, substance use and abuse and healthy relationships. In the senior grades topics may include nutrition, physical and emotional well-being and other aspects required for healthy living. Most of all, sports can be fun, and all students at Western should be having fun!
