How do I Apply?
The Gifted Program at WTCS is for students who have been identified as gifted, with approval from the TDSB. The Enriched Program is for students who have not been identified as gifted, but who show strong academic achievement, solid work skills, and a keen motivation to learn. We have mixed classes with both gifted and enriched students.
FOR GIFTED
- Determine if Western Tech is your flow-through school for giftedness. This information will be given to you during your IPRC Review with your Gr.8 Guidance Counsellor. If Western Tech is your flow-through school you will automatically be accepted into our program.
- Fill out a course selection form for Western Tech which will be available from your Guidance Counsellor. Send this to our Guidance Department.
FOR ENRICHED
- Review the criteria for the Enriched Program - does this sound like a good fit for you?
- A minimum of 75% average for academic subjects is required (some exceptions can be made under various circumstances).
- A strong motivation to learn.
- Some participation in extra-curricular activities
- Get the Teacher Recommendation Form filled out by your Gr.8 teacher. Click here to download. Send this to the Gifted/Enriched Program Coordinator (fax: 416-393-0353, or Ian.Esquivel@tdsb.on.ca).
- Determine if Western Tech is one of your "home" schools. To do this go here and follow the instructions.
- If Western Tech is one of your home schools, then fill out a course selection form which will be available from your Guidance Counsellor and send this to our Guidance Department.
- If Western Tech is not one of your home schools, then in addition to the course selection form, you need to fill out an "Optional Attendance" form and send this to our Guidance Department.
